Surika is the Hub Manager at the Social Enterprise Academy South Africa, a global learning and development social enterprise that supports people and organisations working for social change. SEA SA launched Social Enterprise Connect in 2020 in partnership with the IDC (Industrial Development Corporation) in South Africa.
SE Connect is a Community of Practice (CoP) for social impact makers in SA that – since its inception – expanded to all 9 provinces in South Africa. This ambitious initiative is aimed at recognising, sharing and amplifying the work of social entrepreneurs, while building social capital among these impact makers.
With over 12 years’ experience in South Africa’s social enterprise and non-profit sector, Surika is passionate about supporting social entrepreneurs on their journey to sustainable social impact. Prior to joining the Academy in 2017, Surika was a Business Associate at the world-wide start-up accelerator, TechStars, and a Corporate Matchmaking Manager at the SA Innovation Summit.
She was also a regional winner at the “Vodacom Journalist of the Year” awards in 2008. Surika holds a BA Hons in Journalism & Corporate Communications from Northwest University (2005), and a diploma in “Development for Development Practitioners” from UNISA (2011).
