SUSTAINING IMPACT SUMMIT: 6TH EDITION REPORT NOW AVAILABLE!

By

Sustaining impact isn’t just about doing good—it’s about finding the resources, strategies, and collaborations needed to keep that good work going. And that’s exactly what we explored last year at the 6th Edition ASEW Sustaining Impact Summit.

Held on August 29–30, 2024, this two-day event explored the theme, “Resourcing Impact: Exploring Opportunities, Gaps, and Strategies for Sustaining Impact Initiatives in Africa. The event brought together social entrepreneurs, community leaders, policymakers, and researchers from across Africa, all focused on one big question: How do we sustain and scale impact initiatives in Africa?

From funding strategies to collaborative partnerships and leveraging local resources, the conversations were honest, insightful, and—most importantly—actionable, setting the tone for deep discussions on the real challenges impact-focused organizations face.

Key Highlights

The summit featured thought-provoking keynote speeches from industry leaders like Mrs. Itoto Echakatara, Dr. Natalie Bitature, Dr. Jonas Yawovi Dzinekou, and Willem Gous. These experts shared hard-earned lessons on impact-focused leadership, resource mobilization, and innovative sustainability models.

Panel discussions sparked even more engaging conversations. In one session, Chembo Litana led a discussion on identifying resource challenges in social enterprises. Panelists like Moses Mwansa, Aaron Mashano, and Makambe Namulwanda unpacked whether impact organizations struggle more with resource scarcity, inefficiency, or limited awareness—and, more importantly, how to address these issues.

Another powerful discussion moderated by Anie Akpe and featuring Tizzita Tefera, Dr. Addisu Lashitew, Dr. Kerryn Krige, and Anele Bloch, explored the current state of the African social enterprise ecosystem and potential solutions for strengthening funding and operational sustainability.

Beyond discussions, the event also recognized five finalists for the Sustaining Impact Prize, celebrating their innovative solutions for driving sustainable change.

Masterclasses & Networking

One of the most exciting aspects of the summit was the hands-on masterclasses held in six different African locations—from Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire to Tunisia, South Africa, Zambia, and Kenya. These sessions provided practical strategies for NGOs and social enterprises to develop sustainable business models that don’t just survive but thrive.

Participants also had extensive networking opportunities, making meaningful connections that will foster collaborations beyond the summit.

If there was one recurring theme throughout the summit, it was this: sustaining impact isn’t about relying on external funding alone. It’s about tapping into local strengths, building strategic partnerships, and creating models that empower communities as co-creators of change.

This summit was proof that when passionate changemakers come together, big things happen. But this is just the beginning. As we gear up for the 7th edition of the summit, we remain committed to supporting, connecting, and equipping social enterprises with the tools they need to not just survive, but thrive. Stay tuned for more opportunities, resources, and game-changing discussions that will drive even greater impact.
